October 15, 2012:
Missionary work is all about helping people start eternal relationships
Oktober. One good thing about Slovak is that all the months are similar to English, hahaha. Today I was waiting for Sister Brimhall while she was getting her hair cut and colored, and I was trying to write my dear Pavla, who got baptized in Brno, a letter in Czech... aaaaaaah! I am so confused now, hahah, the Czech is fading. That is awful. Sister Brimhall and I have committed to ONLY speak Slovak this week, and then if we get to live together again after [our Missions] to only speak Czech to keep that going, and we will listen to Conference talks in Czech every morning. We got some plans going. We got some plans.
This week was alright. We are being tested with not getting any new investigators lately, but we are working hard and keeping going. The highlight of the week was of course CONFERENCE. Aaah, my love. I just love it. I used to not really appreciate it, but now I just love it. Adore it. I was so giddy the whole week just waiting!! The new announcement is so great [= about missionary ages being lowered], and Sister Brimhall and I talked about how it now seems possible that Christ might come sometime soon. Before I didn’t really think it could happen soon because there was so much to get done still. But missionary work is the way to go, and I am SO happy girls don’t have to go through that awful limbo phase we went through, BUT I am so glad I got to serve at this time, with the older-ish (I don’t want to say 22 is old) Sisters I have been blessed to work with. The Mission is the best thing I was ever involved in. And some nights while we are planning I realize that we are planning for people we met on the STREET to talk to about the gospel. It is so funny how normal that starts feeling after a few weeks out, and how it all becomes your life, but it's real, even though when I think for a second and try to grasp it, it doesn’t really make sense. Haha, that probably didn’t even make sense. But ya'll got me.
Our beautiful [investigator] this week came to [televised] Conference on Saturday all dressed up and ready to go! I was so happy that she had taken it so seriously when we found out that she thought the Prophet was coming to Banska... heheh oops. We did NOT say that, but I guess our Slovak isn’t good enough to clear up any mishap. But she still loved it. It was just her and one of our members there, but they totally hit it off. Missionary work is all about helping people start eternal relationships. We have helped start one. Everyone has a good feeling about her. After Conference we were all walking to the bus (us Sisters and then the member sister D and then [our investigator]), and [our investigator] said, "It's a beautiful day, I am going to go read the Book of Mormon in the park." GREAT! Hahaha, so she's getting it! And it's changing her life. We are trying to take a step back, and re-learn the principles for ourselves so that we can teach better.
P.S. I love having companions you can work with and ask for help from and give advice to because relationships are good! Ah, love it. I have a testimony of companionship inventories. Found on page... 150 is it? Of Preach My Gospel. Go try it with whatever companion you’re dealing with. It is the best if used properly. Sister Brimhall and I had a 4-hour-going companion inventory throughout the night and the day one day while we went about our certain activities, and we are both ready to rock the rest of this transfer. Anyway, that was a random tangent.
The weather has turned cold, we are starting to wear our coats, and my leggings are back. I don’t like the heavy clothes, but I am loving the light heart. I love service. I love that this is my whole life. I love that the gospel really does fix every problem and answer every question! I love that I am a missionary. I love my mission. I am obsessed with the members. Like sister D, the one I pawned that dying cat off to, she is a ROCK. She has been the only member of her family who is a member of the Church for years. She comes to Church weekly. Was called the Relief Society President right when she was baptized and not only does she take care of the women, but she visits the less active young men. She stays true to her covenants, loves the missionaries, teaches with us, and serves everyone around her. And she has no support around her like we do at home. Why? Because she KNOWS it's true. I just adore her.
Anyway, I am learning so much! The guy just came to tell me that the library is closing. Aaaah! Gotta go. I love you all. The Church is true! John 16:33 is my fave. [=These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.]
Love,
