December 10, 2012:
I know Christ lives, I feel it
It is snowing like CRAZY! I love it. I bought some tights today, four pairs... it ran me like forty bucks, I'm so sorry, but I am so cold, and all my tights are just falling apart. I'll keep these four for when we travel and stuff and throw all the old ones away. I can wear them at home too. They are thick, and they'll be comfortable. And they don’t have holes. I tried to hold out till the end, but it's just so cold in a skirt! Haha, so that's on my credit card, I hope it was ok for me to buy those.
We bought a Christmas tree today! So cute. Last year Sister Brimhall and I just died laughing trying to get one in a pot, and then she carried the pot with the dirt in it while I carried the tree, roots and all, onto the trams in Brno. So so funny. This year we had the car, and they were selling them outside the Tesco where we get our food, and I walked up, saw one in a pot and said, “Sisters, that's our tree.” Paid 20 bucks for it, and put it in the trunk. Haha, so different, and we left all the decorations Mother sent in Brno, but we shall decorate it with stuff we find.... I named it Miss Whippet.
This week we were in Prague a lot, because we had training for Sister Woodworth and us as trainers and then we drove home, went to bed, and then the next morning we got up and drove right back, because President has asked us to be a part of this special "Traveling Missionary Choir". We are singing in Jičín, Prague, Uherske Hradiste, and hopefully Bratislava. Quite exciting. I have a few solo parts during the songs, hahahaha, so I hope someone can get this on camera. The Jičín members are totally excited about the whole thing and rented out a room in the Jičín castle for it! So it'll be grand. I asked the Sisters if we should all wear matching sparkly holly headbands, and they agreed, so we bought those...
This week we were visiting a member, and we went outside and had left the GPS on in the car, so the car battery had died. It was negative fifteen degrees outside, and we were all freezing, but since I had my issues with Tommy dying so often at school (the Honda CRV--remember how I named it Tommy?) I knew how to jump a car. We needed a car though. So the member called another member who called his son-in-law who drove down to jump our car. So great. I love being a missionary and knowing everyone and always being in dire circumstances that make me have to rely on others more than myself. Loooove it. It is so fun. So we got the car going, and it ended up being fine.
Thursday night the First Counselor called me and said, "Sister Izatt, the District President was supposed to come visit, but he got sick and we don’t have a main speaker. I know this is short notice but can you speak on whatever you want for twenty minutes on Sunday in Sacrament Meeting?" I laughed and said URCITE! Which means ‘certainly’ and he thanked me for accepting this with a smile and a laugh. I talked about service and shared the personal experience about Mommy baking tons of gingerbread for the Ward and us working on putting them into sacks and then driving around in elf costumes with Daddy saying, "SOWERS? MCLELLAND?" (just kidding, I left that part out), and anyway Sister Bowler was a DOLL, because I was writing this thing first in English during any dinner or lunch time I had, because we had lessons on plan, and she took it while I drove on Saturday and translated it into Czech for me! Man! That was so helpful and really showed me how much she loves me. I bought her chocolate to try and say thank you.
This week I was thinking about Christ, and this really strong burning feeling came into my chest. Actually not really burning. Like electrifying. I know He lives, I feel it. HE somehow became real to me. And I love that. I hope I am serving Him well. I'm so grateful for you, for the gospel, and for my Czech and Slovak brothers and sisters.
Be well, until next time!
